Tracking error is a commonly used measure of risk for equity portfolios. However, it assumes normal distribution of returns, and this condition is grossly violated for derivative assets, such as equity options. The presentation will show which methods can and cannot be used to measure risk of portfolios that contain options. Daniel Satchkov's role at FactSet is to research and develop risk products that allow FactSet’s clients to take advantage of flexibility offered by the platform to respond to new challenges in the areas of risk measurement and risk reporting. He leads the research and development effort in creation of FactSet's "Monte Carlo Value-at-Risk" product, which combines efficient simulation techniques with implied volatility surface modeling to produce accurate risk estimates for portfolios with nonlinear instruments.

After 13 years of service, Michael H. Moskow will step down as President of the Chicago Fed on August 31, 2007. In this joint luncheon co-sponsored with the Global Interdependence Center, CFA Society of Philadelphia members are offered the opportunity to hear Dr. Moskow in one of his last speaking engagements with the Chicago Fed. Dr. Moskow’s career includes service in the public and private sectors, as well as academia. Before his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Fed, Mike Moskow was a member of the faculty of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and Deputy United States Trade Representative prior to that. Registration will be $ 35 for the luncheon and presentation (11:30pm to 1:30pm) and $ 15 for the presentation only (12:30pm to 1:30pm). Because of Federal Reserve Bank security, we ask that members register in advance, as walk-ins will not be allowed.
