Financial Shenanigans-Identifying Early Warning Signs of Risk

metrics that are used by investors to value businesses are those that will be flattered the most by companies. In this session, quick case studies will provide the backdrop for pointing out how analysis can be led astray by the manipulation of the metrics that matter most. Mr. Siegel leads RiskMetrics’ global team of hundreds of accounting and governance analysts and is a select member of the FASB’s Investors Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC). His publications include “Options Backdating, Corporate Governance Remains a Problem”, The CPA Journal, October 2007, “Accounting Shenanigans on the Cash Flow Statement”, The CPA Journal, March 2006, "Recovery of Embezzled Assets Half a World Away", Journal of Accountancy, August 2001 as well as countless CFRA stories. He frequently appears on CNBC and Bloomberg Television, and was credited with bringing widespread attention to the options backdating scandal. This presentation is CE qualified.

As a participant in the CFA Institute Approved Provider Program, the CFA Society of Philadelphia has determined that this event qualifies for continuing education credit for the Voluntary CFA Institute CE Program.
